ColRegs Home>ColRegs>Lights & Shapes>Towing and Pushing>Special Circumstances Rule 24 Towing and Pushing Special Circumstances  If it is impracticable to exhibit the:  lights or shapes  required by this rule for “sufficient cause”, A dismasted yacht being towed by a harbour or coastal tug then all “possible measures” shall be taken to:  light the vessel or object towed, or at least indicate its presence A dismasted yacht being towed by a harbour or coastal tug - yacht has a spar rigged to allow a light to be displayed and  if a vessel not ordinarily engaged in towing, is towing another vessel in:  distress or need of assistance A dismasted yacht being towed by a small motor boat A dismasted yacht being towed by a small motor boat - tow line is illuminated In this case the vessel towed is able to to display the usual sidelights (and sternlight) then all “possible measures” shall be taken to “indicate the relationship” between the vessels in particular  by illuminating the towline A spar has been lashed in place and a lamp attached instead of sidelights and sternlight on the vessel towed back to top A towing vessel (under 50m) A tug (under 50m) towing a large vessell A vessel towing two barges alongside A tug (under 50m) towing an inconspicuous object A small motor boat towing a dismasted yacht Towing Tow alongside or push Vessel or object towed Inconspicuous objects towed Special circumstances
